The Mikel Mapes Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005.

Mikel Mapes (died February 11, 2003) was a lover of all sporting and outdoorsmenship. He volunteered his time generously with Multnomah Anglers & Hunters and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and also worked as a commercial fisherman for a time. In addition to his love of fishing, hunting, clamming, and camping on the Oregon coast, he also had a passion for gardening and loved sharing his bounty of fruits and vegetables with his neighbors, friends, and family. Established in 2005, the Mikel Mapes Memorial Scholarship recognizes an exemplary junior or senior with a study emphasis on fisheries; it has been awarded to 12 students to date.
